But I hate having my picture taken…
…I hear this from clients all the time (or some iteration of it) and it makes me wonder: do we really hate having our picture taken? Or is there some part of us —even just subconsciously— that’s uncomfortable with the feeling of getting attention, of being visible, of people noticing us.
Having your photos made goes much deeper than how you look on the surface level but I’m also a realist and understand you want to look and feel your best :)
Here are a handful of my favorite tips to help you have a great photoshoot experience, even if you hate having your picture taken:
✨ It’s Okay to Stray from Solid Colors
Nowhere does it say that you must only wear solid colors in photos! In fact, subtle patterns (nothing too big or busy) can add depth and visual interest to your pictures. I also love details and texture like buttons, embroidery, lace, chunky knits, etc. Ultimately, choose an outfit that fits really well and makes you feel good — your confidence will come through!
✨ Don’t be Afraid to Accessorize
Choose a few pieces that complement your outfit without overwhelming it. Statement earrings or a chunky necklace are a great way to add personality. Not sure what to choose? Bring a few different options and I can help you pick.
✨ Invest in Professional Hair and Makeup
Professional photos are an investment in yourself. I strongly suggest taking it a step further and having your hair and makeup professionally done to get the most out of your photoshoot. Not only is it a fun way to treat yourself, it’s truly an invaluable way to make sure you really shine in your pictures. Become Studios professional stylists are on set for every branded photoshoot.
✨ Rest, Eat and Hydrate!
The most basic, but most important thing to do is care for your body before you have photos done. Go to bed early the night before, drink plenty of water (it wouldn’t hurt to skip the margarita or wine, either), and the day of be sure to eat…a nourishing meal will keep you feeling bright and energized.
✨ Communicate, Communicate, Communicate
We all have insecurities. That’s okay. Either on the day of our shoot or beforehand, don’t be afraid to tell me any worries you’re having, discuss your vision, and what you want to achieve with your photos. I’ll guide you and help you feel comfortable every step of the way.
Remember: a photoshoot is an opportunity to celebrate yourself. Approach it with joy, positivity, and an open mind and the ease will follow.
